Hello and welcome to the Romy Design Blog! 9th March 2017
I’d had the greatest intention to start blogging sooner in the build up to what’s been a busy few weeks but for one reason or another I haven’t, so here we go.
Last week I got the keys (or rather a roller shutter with padlock) to unit 47 in the Indoor Market at Shrewsbury (www.markethallshrewsbury.co.uk). I love this place. In recent years it’s become an exciting hive of activity with a great selection of cafes, green grocers and butchers. Alongside this there are some fantastic shops selling all kinds, from wine to records, yarn to herbs and pretty much anything else in-between. To be part of this establishment is really exciting and a great opportunity.
So, this is unit 47….
On the 1st of March I began the moving in process. The first day was a case of staring at walls and freaking out that I was actually going to have a real proper place to call work, followed by a lot of cleaning and painting. Subsequent days have been taken up with cups of tea from neighbouring stallholders, lots of chatting and several coats of paint (note to self, if doing this again maybe go for a lighter shade of paint on the wall that requires fewer coats…).
And here it is after some TLC…
After the obligatory trip to Ikea to get suitable shop-fit equipment it’s been a case of flatpack furniture building and moving car loads of tools and equipment into the space. But, it’s finally starting to take shape and resemble a shop and a place I can work from and call a studio.
